Martha's Vineyard is a special place, as any one who lives here or has visited quickly realizes. Many of my pastel paintings include depictions of the sea and shore, as these are the places that mean the most to me, having been a charter fishing captain for fifteen years. I'm no longer chasing stripers in the surf, but the ocean still calls to me and I take this love of the water to my work.
New for this year are a number of western inspired paintings, stemming from my visits to my parents' home in Saratoga, Wyoming, which is in the southern part of the state. I have also done a couple from the Charleston, South Carolina, area, as I am lucky enough to be a frequent visitor to that lovely low country and hope to do more work from there.
Many of my photos have been inspiration for my paintings. The challenge has been to translate the images to paper with pastel, maintaining the excitement of the moment, whether it be through the movement of beach grass in the wind, the incredible light of the sun as a storm is passing, or just the feeling of solitude.
Please enjoy my galleries and feel free to inquire about any of the paintings or photos that might interest you.
